At the Intersection of Health and Engineering
There’s a new kid on the Hopkins block, and its name is Environmental Health and Engineering (EHE). A dynamic hybrid, EHE builds on the strengths of the Whiting School’s Geography and Environmental Engineering department and the Bloomberg School’s Environmental Health Sciences department. Its integrative approach is uniquely futuristic as well as time-honored, says department chair Marsha Wills-Karp, PhD, noting that with EHE’s formation, the legacy of alumnus Abel Wolman, known as the father of sanitary engineering, has come full circle. EHE represents “a commitment to bring together world-leading expertise in environmental health sciences and engineering to create research-based solutions for the major environmental challenges of our time,” says Dean Michael J. Klag, MD, MPH ’87.
